This initiative represents one of BEHR’s earliest explorations into AI‑driven customer engagement. What began as an idea to surface localized weather insights through THD/BEHR kiosks evolved into a deeper collaboration with Weather.com and IBM Watson Ads. Through that partnership, we saw an opportunity to merge Watson’s conversational AI with our newly launched Color Discovery survey, a mood and style‑based color finder with a curated palette.
Working with our agency partner, internal teams, and the IBM Watson Ads group, we created BEHR’s first AI‑powered chatbot experience. Built on room type, mood, style, and a rich library of color descriptions, the Watson chatbot guided users through natural‑language conversation and simple multiple‑choice prompts to deliver a personalized color palette. The learnings from this early experiment provided valuable insight into conversational behavior, user expectations, and color‑selection logic. All of this informed thinking that later contributed to the 2025 launch of ChatHue, BEHR’s next‑generation AI color assistant.
